Utah Car Insurance from an Independent Agency Licensed Statewide

Utah raised its minimum liability limits on January 1, 2025, and most drivers have never been told where that left their policy. We compare auto coverage across the carriers we are appointed with and walk through the limits with you before anyone quotes a number.

What Is the Minimum Car Insurance Required in Utah?

Every vehicle registered in Utah has to carry liability coverage, and the floor moved for policies effective on or after January 1, 2025. These are the limits the state requires now:

  • $30,000 in bodily injury liability per person
  • $65,000 in bodily injury liability per accident
  • $25,000 in property damage liability per accident
  • $3,000 in Personal Injury Protection

Utah is a no-fault state, so your Personal Injury Protection pays your own medical bills after a crash no matter who caused it. That same $3,000 also works as a threshold: general damages for pain and suffering are available only once medical expenses pass it, or where the injury involves a fracture or permanent impairment. That is the practical case for carrying PIP above the state minimum, and it is the sort of thing we would rather walk through with you on a call now than explain after a collision.

Uninsured motorist coverage goes on every Utah policy at the same limits as your liability coverage, unless the named insured rejects it in writing on a form the carrier provides. Once a driver sees what $65,000 per accident actually reaches in a multi-vehicle collision, the next question is usually how to add personal liability above the auto limits, and that is where an umbrella policy comes in.

Driving Without Insurance in Utah

Utah checks coverage continuously, comparing carrier policy data against the registered-vehicle file and mailing notices to owners it cannot match. Driving uninsured is a class B misdemeanor, and the consequences are set by statute:

  • A fine of no less than $400 for a first offense
  • A fine of no less than $1,000 for a second offense
  • License suspension on conviction
  • Possible revocation of the vehicle's registration
  • A $100 fee to reinstate a revoked registration

From the Daily Commute to the Boat on the Trailer

Hitting the road should be about freedom and adventure, not wondering what your policy leaves out. We write auto coverage around the way a household actually drives, and around everything else parked next to the car:

  • Daily commuters running I-15 between Utah County and the Salt Lake Valley
  • Weekend road trips through the canyons and out to the desert
  • A vintage car that only comes out on clear days
  • A teen driver being added to a family policy for the first time
  • Boats and personal watercraft launched at Utah Lake and Deer Creek
  • Travel trailers and campers, side-by-sides and dirt bikes
  • Motorcycles ridden through Utah's short riding season

One conversation covers all of it, because the same agency writes the car, the toys, and the house.

Tailored Coverage That Moves with You

Every driver is different, and so is the right set of limits. We write everything from liability-only to full coverage with comprehensive and collision, and we explain what each piece does before we put a price on it. Coverage for boats, RVs, and motorcycles alongside the family car sits with the same agency, so nothing falls into the gap between two policies.

Most households we work with end up reviewing the auto policy and the Utah homeowners policy in the same conversation, since the carriers we shop rate a household differently when they see all of it at once.

How Much Is Car Insurance in Utah?

Published Utah averages disagree with each other by hundreds of dollars, because every one of them is built on a different vehicle and a different driver. Rather than print a number that is not yours, here is what actually moves a Utah premium:

  • The distance between a 30/65/25 minimum policy and full coverage with comprehensive and collision
  • Your credit tier, which Utah carriers weigh when they rate a policy
  • Your ZIP code, which prices differently in Utah County than in the Salt Lake Valley
  • The PIP and uninsured motorist limits you choose above the state floor
  • The comprehensive and collision deductibles on the policy
  • Whether a teen driver is on the policy

We work through those pieces with you first, then run your specifics across our appointed carriers. The quote is the honest answer to how much, and getting one takes a phone call, an email, or a text, whichever is easiest for you.

Utah Car Insurance Questions Drivers Ask Us

  • Is Utah a no-fault state for car insurance?

Yes. Utah is a no-fault state, which means your own Personal Injury Protection coverage pays your medical bills after a crash regardless of who was at fault. Every Utah policy has to carry at least $3,000 of PIP. Fault still governs claims for vehicle damage and for injuries serious enough to clear the state's threshold.

  • What changed in Utah's car insurance law?

For policies effective on or after January 1, 2025, Utah's minimum liability limits are $30,000 bodily injury per person, $65,000 bodily injury per accident, and $25,000 property damage per accident. Policies written before that date were held to lower limits, so a policy that has quietly renewed for years may still be sized to the old floor. Your declarations page shows which limits you are carrying today.

  • Do I need more PIP than the $3,000 Utah requires?

$3,000 does not go far against a modern emergency room bill, and it is also the threshold a claim has to clear before pain and suffering damages are on the table at all, unless the injury involves a fracture or permanent impairment. Higher PIP limits usually cost less than drivers expect relative to what they cover. We will price a few options next to each other so the difference is visible before you decide.

  • How much does car insurance cost in Utah per month?

There is no single figure, because Utah premiums move with coverage limits, deductibles, credit tier, ZIP code, driving record, and who else is on the policy. A minimum-limits policy and a full coverage policy on the same car can land far apart. We run your specifics across the carriers we are appointed with and give you real numbers instead of a state average.

  • What happens if you drive without insurance in Utah?

Driving uninsured in Utah is a class B misdemeanor carrying a fine of no less than $400 for a first offense and $1,000 for a second, plus license suspension on conviction. The vehicle's registration can be revoked, and reinstating it costs $100. Utah also compares carrier policy data against its registered-vehicle file on an ongoing basis and mails notices to owners it cannot match.

  • Do I have to meet in person to switch my car insurance?

No. Almost all of our auto policies are handled remotely from start to finish. We review your current declarations page and quote your household by phone, email, or text, you sign the paperwork electronically, and your proof of insurance is emailed to you the same day. We are licensed across Utah, so a driver in St. George or Logan gets the same handling as one in Utah County.

  • What does an independent insurance agency do?

An independent agency represents several insurance companies rather than one, so a single review can be placed with whichever carrier fits the risk and the budget best. We take a household or business through what it owns and owes, run that coverage across our appointed carriers, explain where the policies differ, and stay on the file through renewals and claims. In Utah that means one agency can carry your home, your cars, your life policy, your health plan, and your business coverage.
